A Glimpse into the Future by Rivki Herzog, Primary Jewish Studies

Step by step, our journey towards becoming high school students inches closer, and what better way to embrace this transition than by spending a day immersed in the world of high school? The Year 6 class recently had the remarkable opportunity to step inside the halls of the high school, offering a taste of what lies ahead.

The day began with a mix of excitement and curiosity as the students entered the high school doors. The classrooms seemed larger, and the corridors bustling with activity, but it was an experience they eagerly anticipated. One of the highlights was getting a firsthand look at the variety of subjects high school students engage with. From science experiments that made our eyes widen, to the intricacies of a Halacha class that sparked our interest, each subject left Year 6 with a newfound appreciation for the journey ahead.

However, it wasn’t just about academics. What truly made the day special was the chance to interact with current high school students. They welcomed Year 6 with open arms, offering insights into the dynamics of high school life. As they moved from class to class, the students were shown the ropes by our high school guides, providing us with a sense of comfort.

As the day drew to a close, my class came back to the primary building for a check-in circle. This allowed us to openly share our thoughts and emotions. We expressed our excitement about making new friends, joining clubs, and exploring a wider range of subjects. Simultaneously, we acknowledged our butterflies about the unfamiliar, from the intricate layout of the hallways to the new style of homework.

Reflecting on the day, it’s clear that the journey ahead will be one filled with growth, challenges, and endless possibilities. Our brief glimpse into the world of high school students served as a bridge between the familiar and the unknown. With each step we take, we inch closer to embracing the adventure that is high school.

In a matter of months, Year 6 will find themselves stepping into those very same classrooms as high school students. Thanks to our insightful day immersed in high school, we’re no longer strangers to its halls. Instead, we’re filled with anticipation for the lessons to come, both inside and outside the classroom.
