General Studies at Yavneh

Our rigorous curriculum, taught by educational professionals who are leaders in their fields, allows for each student to achieve at their highest level

At Yavneh, we offer a fully integrated curriculum with both Jewish and General studies integrated across all year levels – from creche to Year 12. A Yavneh experience is holistic and develops students to be resilient and independent learners, equipped with the skills and knowledge to meaningfully engage as Jews in the outside world.

We believe teaching in a rich learning environment that cultivates critical thought and equips students with the crucial skills of collaboration, communication, creativity and citizenship.

Achieving personal excellence is encouraged and supported at Leibler Yavneh College. Grounded in explicit instruction and tight classroom discipline, Yavneh students excel in all fields of academic pursuit. Our stellar VCE results are a reflection and culmination of an educational journey steeped in knowledge and intellectual rigour. Here at Yavneh, the understanding and appreciation of science, maths and classical literature is fundamental to our Modern Orthodox ideology. Yavneh graduates are leaders in their chosen vocation and have demonstrated their ability and willingness to make a difference to both the Jewish and Australian communities.

General Studies in ELC

The Yavneh ELC embodies the principles of the National Early Years Learning Framework and promotes learning across the 5 outcomes:

  1. Children have a strong sense of identity;
  2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world;
  3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing;
  4. Children are confident and involved learners;
  5. Children are effective communicators.

We adopt a child-centred, play based learning program that is based on observations of each child’s individual strength, skills and interests; and provides them with space, opportunity and time to explore and create. Within our program, we also promote a love and respect for the natural environment and embed the principles of sustainability in our daily practice.

At Yavneh ELC, we also support and encourage staff to bring their own strengths and interests into the curriculum, evident in our specialist program where educators take responsibility for certain aspects of planning including: literacy experiences, cooking, Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) and art.

General Studies in Primary

The Primary School curriculum is underpinned by a culture that empowers students to be active participants in their learning. Students are exposed to explicit teaching in core curricula such as English and Mathematics.

The Primary School uses the Australian Curriculum as the basis for curriculum planning. It sets out the core areas of learning that are required for a well-rounded generalist education. Curriculum areas include; Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities, Digital Technologies, Personal, Social and Physical Education, as well as the Arts.

In addition to the Australian Curriculum, Yavneh Primary also:

  • runs a Year 6 student leadership program;
  • follows a wellbeing & restorative practice mode;
  • provides extra-curricular offerings – something for everyone!

General Studies in Secondary

Yavneh achieves a unique balance between a stimulating and challenging Jewish Studies curriculum, a comprehensive General Studies program and wide-ranging extra-curricular activities throughout the College.

Our Secondary curriculum also follows the Australian Curriculum & Victorian Curriculum which set out what every student should learn. The curriculum is the foundation of our teaching and learning program which has been designed to deliver, expand and extend on the knowledge and skills learned in the foundation (Prep – Year 2) & breadth (Year 3 – Year 8) years.

In the Secondary School students have access to a broad range of subjects across many faculties, including the English, Humanities, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Arts, Music, Language (Hebrew), Health & Physical Education and Wellbeing. The Yavneh curriculum provides increasing choice and flexibility in the subjects they study as students mature.

We offer a diverse senior years academic program and we’re justifiably proud of what our students achieve. In 2023, our VCE students once again achieved outstanding results with 49% of students achieving an ATAR of 90 and above & the College ranked as 18th in the state in terms of VCE results.
